Senioritis - Cappies Musical Sun - Mon July 23-24

July 17th, 2007

I’m one of the eight writers of the new Cappies musical comedy Senioritis, and I’m inviting you to come see our show about a month from now. You can check out some of the song lyrics and funny dialogue at our website, www.senioritismusical.com.

Senioritis and two other shows will be performed by Cappie-winning teenage actors and actresses in this year’s Cappies International Theater, a teenage summer stock repertory company. They’re from Cappies programs across the U.S. and Canada. Most of you know how talented our Cappie winners were this year. Imagine a whole cast full of performers
like that!

They’re putting on three shows, starting with the Starz! shows a week from Sunday-Monday, July 23-24.

Senioritis

We’re counting on Cappies parent boosters to get the word out and to help get people to come see these shows. Most of the cast is from out of town, so it’s important that our own Cappies program gives them the kind of audience we’d give for our own friends and family members. Let’s share some of our great hometown Cappies spirit with them.

I’m attaching a poster, with show time and ticket info. I hope you can come see one or all of these shows, and please bring lots of friends and family.

Celebrating the last two weeks & New slate of officers

June 13th, 2007

Hi Drama Boosters,

What an amazing last two weeks it has been for the Theatre Department and for Drama Boosters!!! This e-mail is a quick recap of the highlights to keep everyone posted on all the congratulations that are due:

Cappies Gala at the Kennedy Center on May 27th was quite a sophisticated soiree! All the kids looked fantastic. And we had quite a few performers on stage as Cappies Dancers and Vocalists including Clay Pulsifer, Alyssa LeBlanc, Neema Atri, Erika Kraus and Courtney Moran. The Cappies critics were recognized. And we raised the roof with our cheers as Nate Rosseni was awarded Best Song and Best Lead Actor in a Musical! Check out the website where Lisa Dudek has posted the pictures!

Senior Awards Night on May 30th was a wonderful evening of recognizing so many accomplishments by so many talented and dedicated students. The theatre department recognized 3 outstanding students: Matt Karrenbauer for Excellence in Technical Theatre, Tande Barry for National School
Theatre, and Ashley Whitehead received the Theatre Medallion. In addition, I must say I was very proud when Linda Peterson presented 4 Drama Booster scholarship awards to: Ali Robinson, Ashley Whitehead, Trisha Williams, and Allie Lillich. Of all the school departments, ours was among the most generous scholarship amounts and it shows how much we care about our students. Thank you very much to Libby Vick for spearheading our scholarship committee to bring it to a new level of excellence. Thank you to our scholarship committee Meg Rechter and Tracy Puckett who handled the entire process so professionally. And thanks also to Phyllis Van Houten for the calligraphy and the framing. Beautiful!

Thespian Awards on June 1 was so much fun. The kids did a great job presenting and entertaining us. I especially enjoyed their creative rendition of combining several plays into one. Those darn kids are just so clever. =0)  There are far too many awards to include in this letter, but make sure you go to Page 15 of this week’s CentreView to see all the pictures. Heck, check out the prom pictures too because quite a few of our theatre kids are featured in the prom pix - see pages 13 and 14! They look so fantastic!!

I hear Lemon Drop on June 7th was fun fun fun.

But one of my all time favorite events in the past two weeks was the final Drama Boosters gathering on June 6th. I can now step aside and know that the program will continue to soar among the eagles and reach even higher heights. Several of the key positions for next year have been filled!!!  Your known slate of officers for 07-08 are (drum roll please)

President - CHRIS STARR!!! (Thank you Roger Starr for acquiescing!)

Vice President - Linda Peterson continues to bring her excellence to this roll

Treasurer - Denise Tillema continues to bring her excellence to this roll

Volunteer Coordinator - Lisa Dudek

Programs - Meg Rechter

Concessions - Stephanie O’Neil

Website Coordinator - Jim Tillema

Tech Coordinator - Linda Blake

There are others, including one board position for Secretary, but I won’t steal Chris’s thunder in announcing everything. Equally important, there are still many unfilled roles that we are hoping some new faces and energy will come forward and fill.

It has been a wonderful year for me. I can’t thank you all enough for making it easy and so much fun. I work full-time and am out of town three days a week, so I really mean it when I say I couldn’t have done it without you.  The President’s role is a busy one, but it has a legacy from two amazing women who are organized, creative, and incredibly smart. Lisa Dudek and Deanna Jones created the framework for this role that will make it live successfully for any future volunteers. And you couldn’t have come up with anyone more dedicated than Chris Starr who puts her all into everything she touches for TheatreCentreville. Hooo Rah!

I’m not saying “goodbye” because you’ll see me cheering in the seats next year!

With fondness and appreciation to you all,

Thanks from Mr. Hudson

June 5th, 2007

Dear Drama Boosters:

What a great night for the Thespians, parents, friends, and staff of the Theater program of Centreville High School. The atmosphere and refreshments were superb! The kids were beautiful/handsome and certainly very excited throughout the entire evening. The awards were well deserved and the outpouring of support and praise made it very clear… this department is based on family!

The most disappointing thing about Friday night was the fact that it heralded the end of the school year. How fast it went, though Wild Oats seems years ago. Watching the kids was even more heart felt than the Senior bows at the last performance of Jekyll and Hyde. Those who are graduating have so many things to experience and I hope they will carry all of us with them in the future.

I would like to thank the Boosters for the gift which will allow me to purchase a new electronics security cabinet and roll top housing for the sound board in the booth. We have needed these for many years!

You very generous personal gift will find its way into the perinnial beds that surround my house. I can’t think of a better place to remember this year than in the garden.

Thank you all for the support and hard work throughout this year and years past. Mr. Rogers and I are very fortunate to have such a supportive and caring group…a group filled with friends. I hope that those of you who “graduate” this year will continue to be part of our dream, and I look forward to seeing you and your children in the audience in the future!

With deepest regards,

Mike Hudson

Thespie Thanks

June 5th, 2007

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help make our 19th Annual International Thespian Awards evening a success.

Congratulations to all of our Honor Thespians and congratulations to all of the winners and nominees for the 2007 Theatre Centreville Awards. Everyone appeared to enjoy the evening and that is the object.

Thanks to the Drama Boosters Board–you can always be counted on. Please allow me to offer a few personal “thank yous” to the people that helped orchestrate this event:

Elaine Simmons – above and beyond for “baking” for 2 hours on Friday afternoon at Betty’s Azalea Ranch while we chose, loaded, hauled and unloaded the live plant decorations for the stage and atrium.

Maureen Balderston , Deanna Jones and Patty Kelly along with Elaine for unloading, placing and readying the decorations and tables for the stage and reception.

To all the people who provided refreshments for the reception! We had more than plenty and left some for the custodial staff.

Lisa Dudek, as photographer. Micke and Heidi DeVito for lending Lisa their camera when her battery died.

Maureen, Stephanie O’Neill, Carolin Schebish, Janet Shalestik and Chris Starr for serving during the reception.

Don Williams and Paul Hulley who went behind us while we partied at the reception, and dismantled and removed the decorations from the theatre and then from the atrium at the end of the evening. Additional “thank yous” to Maureen, Nancy Schneider and Steve & Libby Vick for helping to transport all the plants, stands, etc. afterwards.

Lastly, to Maureen, Deanna, Meg, Nancy, Chris, Janet and one gentlemen (I didn’t get his name) who emptied coolers and moved tables back to the cafeteria, who all stayed until the bitter end cleaning up!

In closing, may I take this opportunity to say thank you to Mr. Rogers and Mr. Hudson. Without these men, there could not be the Theatre Centreville that we have today. As a parent of three children that have participated in theatre at CVHS, I would like to say thank you for giving them the chance to shine. May the students to come always enjoy a shining moment of their own!

I wish all of you continued success at Theatre Centreville . . .
Rhonda Hulley

*** SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY FOR COLLEGE-AGE CAPPIES ALUMNI EXPERIENCED IN FILM ***

June 1st, 2007

*** SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY FOR COLLEGE-AGE CAPPIES ALUMNI EXPERIENCED IN FILM ***

As you know, a student creative team has written a musical, Senioritis, for performance by Cappies International Theater this summer.  Thanks to a grant from the Arts Council of Fairfax County, a feature-length film will be made of Senioritis following the stage production.

Judy and Bill have asked CVHS’s VERY OWN *MARK ROGERS* to be the producer-director of the Senioritis film. It is quite an honor that the Cappie founders have honored Mark this way. He is looking forward to making an outstanding broadcast-quality movie.  He is hiring a professional crew, some of whom have won awards in film-making.

*** He can use volunteer student Production Assistants who have college-level experience with film-making. ***

And if you know of any college-experienced production assistants, this would be quite an experience for them and a wonderful thing for them to feature on their resume. (Not to mention the fact that I’m sure they’d like to work with Mr. Rogers again!) Opportunities like this do not come around very often. So, please forward appropriately.

He only needs their help for a few days.  The key filming dates will be Thu-Sun, August 9-12.  There will be some work before then, for those who are interested in volunteering for a longer period.

These Production Assistants need to be mature team players, skilled in one or more of the following areas:
Foley Artist
Stage Manager
Lighting Technician
Make-Up Artist
Hairdresser
Grip
Boom Operator
Gaffer
Camera Crew

If you know anyone who might be interested in a volunteer Production Assistant position for the Senioritis film project, please invite that person to send me an email, as soon as possible, to: mark.rogers@cappies.com.

Thank you.
Mark
